Burrowing Owl Habitat

Wendy-Reed-&-Catherine-Port

BOPS President, Catherine Portman, giving donation to Wendy Reed, President, Antelope Valley Conservancy. February 2007 California Burrowing Owl Consortium meeting in Lancaster.

BOPS Supports Burrowing Owl Habitat Acquisition

Catherine first met Wendy during the effort to relocate the owls at 40th and K in Lancaster. Wendy formed the AV Conservancy with the intention to acquire burrowing owl habitat. BOPS has supported the Conservancy’s effort. The Conservancy is on solid ground, acquiring 150 acres in the Joshua Tree Woodland Significant Ecological Area—with burrowing owl habitat.

AV Conservancy hosted the first California Burrowing Owl Consortium meeting away from its traditional site, the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Newark. Some Consortium members suggested the Consortium would increase participation and political will by holding some meetings in the South State.
